Szelényi Iván (1938) is a sociologist, professor of the Yale University. In 1960 he graduated from the Karl Marx University of Economics in Budapest. In 1973, he earned the title Candidate of Sciences (PhD) at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. Doctor of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (DSc) from 1990. Szelenyi is the former Dean of Social Sciences (2010-2014) and first Emeritus Professor at NYU Abu Dhabi
Research interests: socilogy of settlements and urban communities, structural problems of the capitalistic and socialistic society.
