Sándor Szakály (1955) graduated from the Faculty of Arts Loránd Eötvös University, Budapest in 1980 with a degree in library science and history. In 1990 he became candidate of historical science. In 2006 he was admitted to the HungarianAcademy of Sciences, and habilitated as a doctor of historical sciences. Since 2012 he has been in charge of the Horthy Era Research Team of the Institute of History in the Research Centre of Humanities of the HungarianAcademy of Sciences. He was appointed vice-rector for science and research of the National University of Public Service in 2013. His research interests are the 19th-20th-century Hungarian military, social and sport history, and history of law enforcement. In addition, he has obtained the membership in several academic organisations and associations.
